Tim Farron MP - Working for Westmorland and Lonsdale

Forward Diary - 11 to 17 June 2007

Published on Mon 11th Jun 2007

On Tuesday Tim, as part of the Environmental Audit Committee will be examining the challenge of climate change. Afterwards Tim will be meeting with Simon Brooks from Network Rail to talk about the future of one of the railway footbridges in Grange, and will be asking Network Rail if they would be willing to assist in reinstating the bridge.

Later in the day, Tim will be meeting with representatives of Better Government for Cumbria to discuss Cumbria County Council's bid submitted to the government which would lead to seven local authorities merging into one, with the administrative centre in Carlisle. Last week Tim spoke out about these plans in a Westminster Hall debate, which he feels would be ineffective and separate local people from their council.

On Wednesday Tim will meet with fellow Lib Dem MPs to discuss current party policy. Afterwards Tim will be attending Prime Minister's Question Time with Sir Menzies Campbell.

Back in the constituency on Thursday, Tim will start his day by visiting an exhibition of work as part of a history project by local primary school children at the Westmorland Shopping Centre in Kendal. In the afternoon he'll be at the Marchesi Centre in Windermere to talk about proposed changes to the traffic system in Windermere.

Later, Tim will be meeting the Chief Executive of the Hospitals Trust, Tony Halsall, and separately the Chief Executive of the Primary Care Trust, Sue Page. He will be using both meetings to reinforce his opposition to the closure of the heart and stroke units at Kendal's Westmorland General Hospital.

On Friday Tim will return to Westminster to take part in the debate and vote on the Sustainable Communities Bill which comes back to the floor of the House of Commons. The Bill aims to protect local services like post offices, schools and village shops and enable local people to afford housing in the towns and villages where they grew up.
