Farron backs Bill to save local post offices

January 24, 2007 11:16 AM

Local MP, Tim Farron will dash back to London this Friday to back the Sustainable Communities Bill, when it is due to be debated on the floor of the House of Commons.

Mr Farron has long supported the introduction of a Sustainable Communities Bill, and was one of the leading signatories to the Early Day Motion which called for its introduction.

Last year at a packed meeting at which Mr Farron spoke at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal overwhelming support was given to the Bill, which will give local communities the power to decide which local services they should have. The Bill for example would give local villages the right and the resources to keep open local post offices threatened with closure.

Tim Farron said:

"Friday is normally a day that I devote to spending time amongst the communities that I represent.

"This Friday I will be supporting my communities by backing this Bill which will give our local towns and villages the power to decide what facilities they want locally rather than constantly being on the receiving end of cuts dictated from far away."

If you are a resident of the Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
