MP WELCOMES SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH FOR COMMUNITY POST OFFICE CAMPAIGN

March 9, 2007 11:03 AM

The share launch night for the community post office campaign at Witherslack Village Hall was hailed a resounding success. Over 100 locals came together and pledged to buy shares in excess of £17,000.

The event was an initiative to open and maintain a combined community shop and post office in the wake of the recent closure of Witherslack's post office.

Speaking after the meeting, local Tim Farron MP said:

"Everyone was thrilled with the share launch night; no one could have anticipated the success and money that was raised. It's a prime example of the important role village stores play in a community. The response and donations given by the residents makes it clear they see a village store as vital to their community and close to their heart.

"The share target that needs to be reached in order to start work is £25,000; so it's important that the great work continues and the remaining money can be raised."

The next fund raising event is a casino night to be held at Witherslack Village Hall on Saturday 10th March. Each participant will pay a set amount on entry and will receive a fixed amount of fake money to 'wheel and deal'. All are welcome.

Share application forms were sent out by Tim to all Witherslack residents and it's planned to make the application form available on the internet at www.witherslack.org shortly.

If you are a resident of the Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
