Politics on the agenda for Radio Ambleside

September 28, 2007 3:00 PM

Local MP Tim Farron was grilled by pupils from the Lakes School as part of Radio Ambleside on his life as a politician and his opinions on some of the hot political potatoes of the day. Tim was joined by ten children from the school during a 45 minute 'Question Tim(e)' type event.

The questions ranged from Tim's opinions on lowering the voting age to 16, to Tim's early years in politics and engaging young people in public life.

Helen Robinson, who is Assistant Head of the Lakes School and was at the event, said:

"All the kids were buzzing about it the day after and are keen to get involved in future events relating to politics and the local MP. It gave the students a real opportunity to talk to a bona fide politician."

Tim Farron added:

"One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is to be able to give something back to the young people in the area, and I am delighted that Radio Ambleside gave me the opportunity to do so this week. It is so important that young people become engaged with politics, issues like sustainable communities and climate change will doubtless affect their lives at some point, I hope I can continue to play an active role in engaging young people in this way."

If you are a resident of the Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
