Post office campaign update - local residents take up the challenge

January 9, 2008 3:00 PM

Local MP Tim Farron has received hundreds more letters in addition to the huge numbers who have already signed petitions against the Government's decision to put 43 local post offices under threat of closure. Tim's campaign against the closures has only been running for a matter of weeks and the response has been overwhelming.

There have been responses from communities across South Lakeland. This week, there has been a large influx of letters in support of local post offices with 58 letters from Hawkshead, 67 from Holme and 43 from Kents Bank.

Tim Farron said:

"I am delighted that so many people have taken the time to respond, but I am not in the slightest bit surprised. Everyone sees their local post office as vital, for some people it is a lifeline. I will continue to do everything in my power to stop these closures, and the more people who respond to the surveys or petitions the better!"

If you are a resident of the Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
