Farron fights for affordable housing

May 8, 2008 3:00 PM

Local MP Tim Farron is to present his idea for creating more affordable housing in the South Lakeland area to the Local Development Framework of South Lakeland District Council this week. First time buyers in the area are struggling to establish themselves and much of the existing housing is swallowed up as second homes.

Tim Farron is to present his 'Home on the Farm' document, which promotes the refurbishment of disused farm buildings to avoid new housing estates into affordable homes in the very areas that they are needed.

Tim Farron said:

"South Lakeland is in desperate need of more affordable housing. The Home on the Farm scheme would create up to 1500 homes could be created in buildings that already exist, specifically to address the need for more affordable housing.

"These houses would provide accommodation that would help to maintain our communities and local services and would be a real boost to those looking to get a foot on the housing ladder."

If you are a resident of the Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
