Farron celebrates CancerCare's Silver Jubilee

June 11, 2008 3:00 PM

Local MP has tabled an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons celebrating the work of CancerCare, a charity that has worked for 25 years providing free support, counselling and therapeutic services for cancer sufferers. The charity has now launched their Silver Jubilee appeal, which aims to raise £2.1m through people donating their loose silver change.

The cost of the services provided by CancerCare annually amounts to around £1m, but the charity is aiming to raise extra funds this year in order to build a dedicated children's centre in the Lakes Centre in Kendal as well as an arts and crafts facility in Lancaster.

Tim Farron said:

"CancerCare have provided wonderful support for thousands of cancer sufferers and their families over the last 25 years and I want to back them in their fight to expand their services to help even more people.

"I would urge people to give their silver change to the campaign, and I'll have a Silver Jubilee appeal tin in my office in Kendal for constituents to make donations."
