Post Office Ltd have duty to provide a service at Elterwater

September 9, 2008 5:51 PM

Post Office signResponding to the closure of Elterwater's post office, local MP Tim Farron said: "Elterwater Post Office, and for that matter those at Burneside and Kirkland, were not on Post Office Ltd's list of closures. The Post Office has a duty to provide a service in these places, and should get on with providing a temporary service while they sort out a permanent solution."

Tim has spoken to the Post Office's network change team to express his anger at the closure of Elterwater, Burneside and Kirkland post offices.

He continued: "Many people feared that the Post Office was closing viable post offices as part of the formal closure programme, cynically knowing that others would also go to the wall thanks to the reduction in Government funding for the service. We must not lose our post offices by a process of attrition if we are to retain health communities in South Lakeland."

If you are a resident of the Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
