Farron Takes Kendal Cancer Unit Campaign to Parliament

Local MP Tim Farron launched his campaign for a new cancer unit in South Cumbria in Parliament by tabling an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons calling on the Government to provide funding for a cancer centre at Westmorland General Hospital.

Currently cancer sufferers from Kendal are forced to travel to either Carlisle or Preston to receive radiotherapy treatment.

On Saturday morning Tim will be at Kendal Market place to formally launch his petition to have the new cancer centre built at Westmorland General Hospital.

Commenting Mr Farron said:

"The gap in cancer treatment between the Carlisle and Preston is one of the largest in the UK; but there is a very obvious and practical solution on offer.

Westmorland General Hospital would be the perfect location for a new cancer unit; but we need to mobilise public support right away. Our community has stood together as one in support of our hospital and I am certain that we will be successful in our campaign for a cancer unit if we stand together again.

"I'll be at Kendal Market Square on Saturday at 1130am to launch my petition and would ask everyone to come down and give their support to a proposal that could end up saving many lives."
