Farron encourages fellow MPs to join campaign for Ovarian Cancer Awareness

MP Tim Farron has praised the work of the Ovarian Cancer Action charity and their efforts to help more women recognise the symptoms of the disease through their Awareness Month which started yesterday.
Research has demonstrated that women diagnosed with ovarian cancer in its earlier stages experience survival rates which can be as high as 90%.The charity is hopeful that their 'Awareness Month' will help save women's lives by encouraging more women to recognise the early symptoms of the disease.
Mr Farron's mother died from Ovarian Cancer in 2004.
Mr Farron has tabled an early day motion in the House of Commons celebrating the beginning of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and commending the charity's dedication to funding the advancement of ovarian cancer research as part of its mission to save women's lives.
Commenting Mr Farron said:
"Ovarian cancer is disease which has affected many women but still awareness about the disease and its symptoms remains relatively low in the UK.
"Given the fact that if it is caught in its early stages the survival rates for ovarian cancer can be as high as 90% it's absolutely crucial that we educate women about the symptoms of this disease.
"The only way more lives will be saved is if we increase our awareness about ovarian cancer. That's why I'll be encouraging my fellow MPs to join me in giving their full backing to Ovarian Cancer Action's Awareness Month."

That this House notes with concern that current awareness of ovarian cancer and its symptoms is low in the UK; recognises that research has demonstrated that almost all women with the disease (90%) experience symptoms, even in early stage disease, when survival rates can be as high as 90%; expresses concern that despite this fact, three out of every four women are only diagnosed with ovarian cancer after it has spread significantly, leading to a dramatic fall in survival rates; commends the work of Ovarian Cancer Action who are dedicated to advancing and supporting ovarian cancer research; and celebrates the beginning of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month as a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of ovarian cancer research as part of its mission to save women's lives.
