MP Tim Farron will this Saturday take to the hills around Cartmel to compete in the Ultimate Sticky Toffee 16KM Challenge to raise funds for a local charity campaign hoping to raise enough money to redevelop the playground in Allithwaite village.
The Sticky Toffee Pudding fell race - the first of its kind - is a 16km route notoriously referred to as the "Beauty and the Beast" course combining beautiful scenery with tough running sections. Successful competitors are rewarded for finishing the race with a famous Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding.
Mr Farron will be running for a local charity hoping to raise funds for a children's playground in Allithwaite village. The campaign, organised by a group of enterprising mums from Allithwaite is aiming to raise £60,000 to refurbish the whole play area with new equipment.
Commenting Mr Farron said:
"I am delighted to be taking part in the first ever Cartmel Sticking Toffee Pudding Race. It's fantastic opportunity to take in some of Cartmel's beautiful scenery whilst raising money for a great cause. I'm sure that the promise of a sticky toffee pudding at the end of the race will help the kilometres sail by.
"I hope that my contribution will go someway to raising enough money to build a safe, accessible communal play area in Allithwaite which the children can enjoy and the whole community can benefit from."
