Farron celebrates Arnside Lecture Group funding

March 23, 2009 5:02 PM

Local MP Tim Farron has today welcomed a Lottery grant of £1,275 for the Arnside Lecture Group.

The Grant has come from the Awards for All programme which is a Lottery grant scheme for local communities. They award grants of between £300 and £10,000 for people to take part in art, sport, heritage and community activities, and projects that promote education, the environment and health in the local community. The funding will be used for technical equipment and a projector which will allow the group to go from strength to strength.

Arnside Lecture group was formed in 2000 and have two sets of 6 lectures in the Spring and Autumn every year. The lectures usually follow a theme and attract university staff and academics to come and talk to the community.

Mr Farron said:

"I am delighted that community projects like this at Arnside are being given the funding they deserve. £1,275 will allow the group to buy equipment to make their lectures even better and more diverse than ever before.

"I'm so happy that their value to the community has been recognised and I hope that this grant is the first of many. Life long learning is vital and is great to see that people have the opportunity to access high quality academics and hear from experts in their field."

If you are a resident of the Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
