Local MP's Charity Triathlon is a tri-umph

July 15, 2009 12:00 AM

Tim Farron MP and local councillor Steve Coleman with support runners on shore of WindermereThis weekend saw local MP Tim Farron hit the lanes - and lakes - of his constituency in aid of local charity 'Cancer Care South Lakes'. The triathlon took Tim from the most northerly point to the most southerly point of the constituency and had him running, rowing and cycling.

The triathlon kicked off on Dunmail Raise, Tim then ran down through Grasmere, Rydal and Ambleside and arrived at Waterhead on Windermere one hour and ten minutes later. The second leg of the triathlon involved rowing down Lake Windermere to Fell Foot, this 12 mile journey took over 3 and a half hours and was followed by the final cycle ride to Humphrey head which took an hour. Tim ran the last half mile out into the sands of Morecambe Bay until he'd passed the most southerly piece of land in the constituency.

The Triathlon was organised to raise much needed funds for a building project aimed at helping South Lakes Cancer Care to meet the needs of children affected by cancer.

Commenting Mr Farron said:

"The Triathlon was extremely enjoyable, but a real challenge - I certainly felt it the next morning!

"Travelling from the north to the south of my area gives a great sense of just how large it is, and how diverse the communities are which I represent.

"I am really pleased that we were able to raise money to put towards this important building project, caring for young people who have been affected by cancer is so important. If people would like to support Cancer Care South Lakes, they can still make a donation via my just giving page on http://www.justgiving.com/timfarron1/"

If you are a resident of the Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
