Witherslack Welly Weekend for 'Heal Africa' Recognised in Parliament

November 4, 2009 12:00 AM

Participants in the Witherslack Welly Weekend were recognised in Parliament this week, after local MP Tim Farron tabled an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons congratulating of all those who took part in raising money for the 'Heal Africa' charity.

Last month Tim joined hundreds of local residents for their attempt to break the world record for the largest conga done in wellies in order to raise money for Heal Africa, a grass-roots organisation in Goma on the Congo-Rwanda border. Mr Farron's Early Day Motion praised the charity for their outstanding service in helping those who have suffered from conflicts and natural disasters.

Commenting Mr Farron said:

'I was delighted to be able to take part in the Witherslack Welly Weekend. It was great fun to take part in the world record conga attempt!'

'I would like to thank all those who took part for their hard work and enthusiasm in raising money for Heal Africa.'

'Everyone who took part in the conga demonstrated great community spirit and showed what can be achieved when we all work together for a good cause. Putting down this Parliamentary Motion is a really effective way of drawing attention to the excellent work of Heal Africa and of the folks of Witherslack who are going out there to support local people. '

If you are a resident of the Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
