Kendal goes green-it's official

March 2, 2010 12:00 AM

Kendal will officially 'go green' after Kendal and the South Lakes is awarded the prestigious status of 'transition communities' under the transition towns' scheme, given to communities because of their commitment to tackle climate change through practical action as individuals, businesses, schools, public sector bodies and the wider community.

Local MP Tim Farron has praised the efforts of local residents who achieved the award by demonstrating their commitment to tackling climate change. Mr Farron has tabled an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons congratulating the communities of Kendal and South Lakes for their hard work and commitment and has pledged his support to local transition communities as they seek to fight climate change through concerted action. Tim will speak at the official launch on Wednesday marking Kendal's official acceptance as a 'transition town'.

Commenting Mr Farron said:

"There's no doubting the very real danger posed by the threat of climate change to the future of this planet. Given the severity of the problem, it's vital that communities come together to tackle climate change.

"The 'transition town' scheme offers communities a real incentive to take the necessary measures needed to drastically reduce our carbon emissions

"It's testament to all the hard work and commitment of the local residents in Kendal and the South Lakes in the fight against climate change that we have been awarded the status of 'transition communities'

If you are a resident of the Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
