Local MP Tim Farron yesterday re-opened Oxenholme Post Office and Stores after a successful community campaign to bring the service back.

Oxenholme Post Office closed over a year ago against the wishes of the community and since then there has been a clamour for the service to be brought back, especially from elderly members of the village who had previously been expected to travel either to Natland or into Kendal which could be difficult to do for many local residents. But after much lobbying of Post Office Ltd by Tim the vital local service has returned to Oxenholme on the old site.

At the event yesterday morning a large crowd congregated to witness the opening, look round the refurbished shop and eat cake and sandwiches provided by the store management.

Tim said: "It's fantastic to see the Post Office back in the heart of the community. I spend a lot time defending vital local services from cuts so this is fantastic news and it is heart-warming to see the community come out and support the new venture. I wish Bill Riddell and his family all the best with the post office and store and I want to encourage the whole community to get behind him and make sure that the new business is a success."

If you are a resident of the Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
