Tim joins Kendal Christians Against Poverty to celebrate successful first year

May 17, 2010 12:00 AM

South Lakes MP Tim Farron spoke at a special celebration on Friday at Parr Street Church in Kendal.

The event celebrated the first anniversary of Christians Against Poverty (CAP) in Kendal. CAP is a national organisation working through churches to help people in poverty, especially those struggling with debt. Last May, CAP was launched in Kendal and since then dozens of local people have been in touch with the service and many of them are being helped on the way to financial recovery.

At the celebration event at Parr Street, Tim said "nothing restricts your freedom like poverty and nothing crushes your spirit like debt - it's right that Christians should take practical action to fight poverty and debt, and CAP Kendal is doing just that"

People who feel they could benefit from CAP's services in the South Lakes can do so by calling 0800 328 0006.

Tim added, "People who have been helped by CAP this last year tell me that it is almost too good to be true. The service is free, having got in touch with CAP, a money advisor from Parr Street church will come and chat to you and work out a budget for repayment that you can afford and after that anyone who you owe money to must deal directly with CAP and not hassle you directly."

If you are a resident of the Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
