Farron calls for clarity over local hospice funding

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has called on the Chancellor of the Exchequer and Health Minister Andrew Lansley to confirm the proposed funding for St Mary's Hospice which was awarded by the previous government.
The previous government agreed £263,317 for the centre but the much-needed investment is now possibly under threat. As part of the Treasury's review of all spending decisions taken since January.
St Mary's Hospice central government grant of £263,317 is part of a £40 million fund, to improve the physical environment for patients and their families.
Tim says, "I am asking the Chancellor and the Health Secretary to speed up the decision and let the Hospice know so they can plan for their future. The fantastic work that St Mary's Hospice does for the South Lakes cannot be understated and I hope that the government will see this and support them financially.
"I will be pressing this case firmly to ministers on behalf of the thousands of local people and their families who use the vital service every year. I'm glad that the Liberal Democrats secured an increase in NHS funding in the coalition agreement - but we now need to ensure that this means real protection for local services."
