MP launches radiotherapy campaign

September 5, 2011 10:44 AM

Tim at the new cancer unitLocal MP Tim Farron has sent 40,000 petitions to people throughout the South Lakes asking them to join the campaign to bring radiotherapy services to Westmorland General Hospital.

After the huge success of bringing the chemotherapy unit to the hospital in Kendal, Tim is now working to bring radiotherapy services to Kendal, saving patients a 44 mile trip to Preston.

To show the distance that patients have to travel for treatment last year Tim walked the 44 mile route from Preston to Kendal.

Tim says: "We are delighted with the establishment of the chemotherapy unit at Westmorland General and the response I've seen from patients is evidence of its success, however our campaign for new health services must not stop here.

''I hope that residents respond with the same passion to stage 2 of our campaign, as they did regarding the petition for the chemotherapy services, by supporting and signing the new petition for a radiotherapy unit in Kendal."

If you are a resident of the Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
