'There is real hope that Hawkshead will get its Post Office back' says Tim

February 1, 2012 1:53 PM

TF and post officeSouth Lakes MP Tim Farron has today said that he is 'very hopeful' that a Post Office will be reopened in Hawkshead soon.

Tim had a series of phone calls yesterday with Post Office Ltd and various local businesses to try and find a solution and to bring the service back to the village. The branch closed on 25 January 2012. With Hawkshead post office closed, the nearest branches are almost 5 miles away at Ambleside and Coniston with a limited bus service.

Tim has also been keeping in touch with local councillor Colin Davies and Hawkshead Parish Council to make sure that they are kept informed of developments.

Tim said: "Local residents and businesses will suffer if we cannot bring a post office back to Hawkshead. To expect people to go 5 miles to pick up their pension is unfair and I am pushing the Post Office to bring back a service to the village. My conversations with Post Offices bosses and with local interested parties yesterday gives me real hope that a branch will be re-opened soon, but we must keep up the pressure to make sure that Hawkshead wins back its post office."

If you are a resident of the Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
