'Torchlight must survive' says Tim

July 9, 2012 9:06 PM

Kendal TorchlightSouth Lakes MP Tim Farron has offered 'whatever help is needed' to make sure Kendal's Torchlight Carnival survives. Organisers made the decision to axe this year's event after struggling to attract enough funding and volunteers in time for the September celebration.

There are hopes that the event will be held in 2013. Tim is keen to bring businesses, the councils and other parties around the table to make sure that this happens. But he has also said he hopes that there might still be a chance that the event could happen this year.

Tim said: "Torchlight is an amazing event. For the last few years I've done my best to be on one of the floats with my children so that I can fully enjoy what is always a fantastic evening that really brings our community together. The atmosphere at Torchlight is always a highlight of Kendal's year. I will sit down with all the parties in the coming days and do everything I possibly can to make sure the event in 2013 happens, but I still hold out some hope we can rescue the carnival for this September too."

If you are a resident of the Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
