South Lakes MP Tim Farron has today called for the government to support the Cumbrian tourism industry. Tim has written to Business Secretary Vince Cable asking for his support following proposed 53% cuts to Cumbria Tourism's yearly budget.

Health minister confirms continued progress on cancer centre and plans for local review of patient safety

South Lakes MP, Tim Farron, today secured confirmation from Health Minister Simon Burns, that plans to provide cancer treatment at Kendal will go-ahead under the new coalition government and that chemotherapy services will be available later this year. Work is ongoing on a feasibility study to bring radiotherapy to Kendal too - with that work set be completed around the end of this year.

Fears that the Youth Hostel in Kendal will be forced to close have been temporarily lifted after Carolyn White, Chief Executive of the Youth Hostel Association, agreed to consider a proposal put forward by South Lakes MP Tim Farron for another building to used as a replacement.
Farron launches 2013 organ donor campaign in Parliament - and calls on Hospitals Trust to appoint organ co-ordinator for Kendal

South Lakes MP Tim Farron met with representatives from Transplant 2013 this week to offer his support to the campaign and raise awareness of organ transplantation in Parliament. Transplant 2013 is campaigning to reach the target to increase organ donation after death by 50% in 2013; the current figure stands at just over 25%. Transplant 2013 asked Mr Farron to provide political leadership for the campaign and ensure that organ transplantation is a priority for the government's health policy.
Health white paper could bring welcome local control - Farron
