Support the campaign for a cancer treatment centre in Kendal

Local MP Tim Farron has joined with health professionals to campaign for a new cancer unit in south Cumbria. Currently patients requiring treatment for cancer have to travel to Carlisle or Preston, enduring some of the longest distances in the UK for cancer treatment.

Following meetings with NHS Cumbria and the local hospitals trust, Tim is playing a key role in the campaign pressing government and other public bodies to support the bid for a new unit. Already, Tim has secured a parliamentary debate with health minister Ann Keen MP and a meeting with national cancer tsar Professor Mike Richards. Both were supportive of the idea, and said that the bid would stand a greater chance of success with the support of the local community.

Tim says: "It's clear from my meetings that the support of local people will once again be key in the future of the Westmorland General Hospital. We need to show the decision makers that support clearly exists. I ask everyone who supports the campaign to sign the petition calling for a cancer treatment centre in Kendal"
