Deficits show need for overhaul of NHS funding

5.09.19pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 7th Jun 2006

Commenting on the release today of the NHS Annual Report, local MP Tim Farron said: "It is clear from the news today that the NHS funding system needs a complete overhaul. Hospital trusts like our local Morecambe Bay trust have to provide services to a much wider geographical area without any extra funding. The extra cost of providing services across the rural area of Morecambe Bay far exceeds the £6.4million deficit that they have recorded.

"We also need to look seriously at the way that the extra money provided to the NHS in recent years is being spent. It's clear that its not making it to the front line - paying instead for things like expensive computer systems, a point I raised in Health Questions in Parliament recently."
