Farmers Union of Wales address Hill Farming Group

10.59.10am GMT Fri 9th Mar 2007

Local MP, Tim Farron today chaired a meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Hill Farming which was addressed by Derek Morgan of the Farmers Union of Wales. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss many of the issues faced by uplands farmers in Wales, in addition to issues which effect farmers in other regions of the UK.

Mr Farron also used the opportunity to introduce the FUW and other members of the Group to his Early Day Motion which criticises the performance of the Rural Payments Agency.

After the meeting, Mr Farron said:

"The meeting with the FUW was extremely useful, it provided an opportunity for the APPG to discuss Welsh issues where previously we had focused mainly on English issues, for example we discussed the issue of electronic ID for farm animals which is proving costly and for many farmers.

"It was also good to introduce my EDM on the Rural Payments Agency to other members of the Group, Hill Farmers are being consistently inconvenienced by the RPA's inefficiency, and the APPG on Hill Farming will continue to fight their corner."
