Farron backs 'Race for Life' in parliament

10.04.58am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 10th May 2007

Local MP, Tim Farron has today tabled a parliamentary motion in support of Cancer Research UK's 'Race for Life' campaign. The 'Race for Life' was first organised in 1994 and has since raised millions of pounds for Cancer Research in the UK. Women up and down the country will begin running their 5km 'Race for Life' this weekend.

Cancer Research UK is the largest independent organisation dedicated to cancer research in the world, and provides thousands of cancer sufferers with essential information and support every year.

Tim Farron said:

"Cancer Research UK does a really fantastic job and the 'Race for Life' has contributed some £140 million towards this work. I recently lost my mother to cancer and know how difficult a situation it can be for everyone concerned.

"I have tabled my Early Day Motion because whilst I cannot compete in a Race for Life myself as it is for women only, I am keen to get as much support for the fundraising as possible."

Tim will also be attending the start of the CancerCare StarWalk this Saturday at Lakes Leisure in Kendal at 11.15pm.
