Farron presses Sport England for Berners pool support12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 16th May 2007 Local MP, Tim Farron has today written to the Chief Executive of Sport England, Jennie Price asking for help in reopening the Berners swimming pool in Grange-over-Sands. The pool, which opened in 2007 as a community trust was forced to close last year because of financial problems. Mr Farron asked Sport England if they would meet with him to discuss ways in which the pool could be reopened. Sport England has previously provided part of the funding for the pool at its inception, but the site has now returned to council ownership. Tim Farron said: "It would be a real shame to see the pool remain closed, especially after all the excellent work done by local people and Sport England in the first place, for which we are all very grateful. I want to see as many community sports facilities as possible so I hope Sport England will be sympathetic to my request. "There is a backlog of repairs at the site at the moment due to poor workmanship in the original construction, and I would like to see the authorities seek compensation for this."
