Farron welcomes 'Open Farm Sunday' in Parliament

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 6th Jun 2007

Local MP Tim Farron has this week tabled a motion in parliament lending his support to 'Open Farm Sunday' on the 10th June. The initiative will see eight Cumbrian farms open their gates throughout June allowing people from as many different backgrounds and ages as possible to experience farm life.

Organised nationally by conservation organisation Linking Environment and Farming, and supported locally by Friends of the Lake District 'Open Farm Sunday' aims to raise the profile of farmers and the many positive contributions they make in maintaining the countryside and producing safe, locally grown foods.

Tim Farron said:

"Open Farm Sunday is a fantastic initiative as it allows for a greater appreciation of the important work farmers undertake. Hopefully it will not only provide a better understanding of the environment but also encourage consumers to support their local farmers."

As part of Cumbria's celebration of Open Farm Sunday, four farms will be holding events on the 10th June
