Sustainable Communities Bill backed by local MP12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 13th Jun 2007
Local MP, Tim Farron will be supporting the Sustainable Communities Bill in parliament on Friday, it is a Bill designed to, among other things put a stop to the government's plans to close large parts of the post office network. The Bill is returning to parliament this Friday and Tim will make a special effort to travel down from the constituency to back the Bill in its progress towards becoming law. The Bill would provide local people with the power to decide which services they should have in their area, which among other things would give small villages the right and resources to keep open their local post offices which are often vital parts of the community. Mr Farron said: "Normally I would spend my Fridays in the constituency with the people I represent, but I regard this Bill to be of such significance to our area that I felt I had to be there. "The Sustainable Communities Bill will provide local people with the power to decide for themselves what services they want and need, this is why I will be giving the Bill my full support."
