Windermere roundabout option back on the table - Farron challenges County Council to take it seriously12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 17th Jul 2007 Tim Farron joined residents and business people at the Marchesi centre in Windermere yesterday to look at the revised plans for the Windermere traffic system. Tim is pleased that the County Council have listened to the views of local people and have dropped plans to reduce parking on Crescent Road as well as presenting new options for the main junction off the A591. As well as the original option and the 'do nothing' option, three new options have now been put forward, all of which would remove the plan for traffic lights. Option 3 includes the large roundabout solution, option 4 has a mini-roundabout and option 5 makes minor alterations to the junction. All options other than 'do nothing' would enable the town to take advantage of significant funds to enhance the local built environment. Mr Farron said: "The large roundabout option is clearly the best and most popular solution. The County Council must take this option seriously and approach the owners of the Windermere Hotel to explore the possibility of securing the land necessary in order to make the roundabout a reality" "I have spoken to the owners of the hotel and I know that they are prepared to discuss the possibility of selling the land, I also know that there is a strong possibility of some private funding to contribute to purchasing the land. I have asked the County Council to do the right thing and open negotiations with the landowners. The people of Windermere have made their views clear and it is vital that we take our lead from them."
