Farron backs Age Concern in care charging battle

3.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Sun 26th Aug 2007

Local MP Tim Farron goes to the Age Concern AGM at midday today as county council bosses continue to push forward plans for charging for day care for the elderly. At the meeting, Tim will be talking to many people who make use of day care.

Tim Farron said:

"If the Council charges for day care it could exclude many vulnerable people from being able to access this vital service. This would be unacceptable and I hope the council will look again at these plans."

Mr Farron has previously objected to the Council's plans, stating that day care users were not properly consulted. Tim will be launching an ombudsman case if Age Concern's judicial review bid is not successful.
