'Home on the Farm' project seeks to provide solutions to the affordable housing crisis

3.00.00pm GMT Wed 31st Oct 2007

Local MP, Tim Farron will table a parliamentary motion next week urging local authorities to take the lead in addressing the lack of affordable housing by adapting and converting disused or underused farm outbuildings into housing for local people.

Mr Farron, who has labelled the idea 'Home on the Farm', is keen to see local authorities take a more positive and opportunistic approach to finding sites for affordable housing.

Tim Farron said:

"I don't deny that it is tricky to find suitable spots for affordable housing, but if a local community agrees that a site is viable, then surely we should grasp that opportunity to begin to address the issue.

"I have tabled the Motion in the hope that the Government will work with local authorities to implement this plan in order that we might at least begin to stem the flow of young people unable to get on the housing ladder from the area."
