Local MP praises domestic violence partnership in parliament

3.00.00pm GMT Wed 5th Dec 2007

Tim Farron has tabled a parliamentary motion in support of the Cumbria Domestic Violence Partnership having visited them recently. Domestic violence is a problem that blights the lives of thousands of people in the UK, and many people rely on the work of specialist teams such as the CDVP.

Mr Farron was particularly troubled to hear that although domestic violence makes up some 14% of all violent crime in the UK, only 35% of all domestic violence cases are actually reported to the police.

Tim Farron said:

"The work done by the CDVP is truly inspiring and in many cases it is the only assistance that people can get. It is crucial that the Government continues to recognise and support these organisations so that they are able to survive."
