Post office campaign update - Residents urged to get their letter in by Valentines Day as Post Office Limited guarantee every letter "Will be read"3.00.00pm GMT Tue 22nd Jan 2008 Local MP Tim Farron's campaign to save the 42 local post offices threatened by Government closures continued this week as he secured a promise from Post Office Limited that they would read every one of the letters they receive during the consultation. He also secured information which shows that many of the decisions about closure will be made between mid February and mid March, and so Mr Farron is urging residents of South Lakeland to send him letters of support for their post office by 14 February. So far over a thousand letters of support have been sent from communities in Mr Farron's constituency alone, and as the impact of a loss of a branch on a community will be taken into account, it is especially important that people continue to show support. Mr Farron is also urging people to send any further letters of support to his office as soon as possible, as the March deadline when the decisions will be taken is fast approaching. Tim Farron said: "It was heartening to hear that the Post Office would be reading every one of the letters we send them, which is why it is all the more important that we continue to show the significant public feeling against the planned closures. "If they are genuine about taking the impact on local communities into account, we have a real chance of saving a number of the post offices under threat. The consultation deadline is approaching rapidly so we must act now!"
