Farron Supports Awareness Campaign for Ovarian Cancer11.13.43am GMT Thu 13th Mar 2008 Local MP Tim Farron met with women who had suffered with Ovarian Cancer this week as part of a nationwide campaign to promote awareness for the symptoms of this form of cancer. Ovarian cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women, with 7000 new cases diagnosed each year in the UK, and yet the symptoms are often over looked. Survival rates are low at 30%. Tim Farron said: "Ovarian cancer is often not diagnosed quickly enough due to lack of awareness and consequently people die unnecessarily. I lost my Mum to Ovarian cancer in 2004. The disease is a cruel one and lacks the profile of many other forms of cancer and, consequently, there is not enough money going into essential research. "It often takes considerable time before women and their GPs realise something is seriously wrong. I'd like to make sure that every woman in our community is made aware of the symptoms which occur very frequently, and that they are not afraid to visit their GP to discuss them. It is highly important that we get these women treated earlier so that the survival rate improves."
