MP FOLLOWS UP CAMPAIGN TO BRING GOVERNMENT JOBS TO SOUTH LAKELAND

3.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 20th May 2008

  • Farron offers to act as business tour guide for ministers!

Tim Farron has launched an unprecedented assault on government departments in an attempt to bring good quality government jobs to South Lakeland. Mr Farron lobbied the Secretaries of State for 12 Government departments asking them to relocate government offices from the South East to South Cumbria.

Tim asked parliamentary questions of all these departments in an attempt to improve employment prospects for his constituents and bring much needed investment in to the area.

Responses so far have been polite but non-committal and so Tim Farron has followed this up by offering to act as a personal guide to ministers visiting the Lakes or Dales on their holidays this year.

"No doubt dozens of government ministers will be spending some of their summer recess here in south Cumbria. I don't want to intrude on their holidays, but I'm offering to give them half a day to see the benefits of locating government offices to south Cumbria such as the new University of Cumbria, good transport communication, excellent business support and the best mix of arts and leisure facilities outside London."
