Farron celebrates Grange flood success and calls on Environment Agency to take the next step3.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 27th May 2008 Local MP Tim Farron has welcomed an important step forward in work to reduce the long standing flood risk on Windermere Road in Grange. By liaising with officials from United Utilities, Mr Farron has secured an improvement to the local sewer system that will see the risk of flooding reduced by 30%. After securing this improvement, Mr Farron has urged the Environment Agency to take the next step. Mr Farron MP said: "This is encouraging news for Grange residents who have had to put up with the effects of flooding for far too long. Hopefully the works, which begin on June 2nd, will make a positive difference to people's lives. It is understandable, given the widespread flooding to other parts of the country, that the Environment Agency has priorities with regards to flood defence, but this small step should be the first of many to making a big improvement. "The ball is now in the Agency's court, it should be our turn now. As soon as possible the Environment Agency must agree to the major engineering works that would be required to reduce the threat of flooding further."
