Yorkshire Dales NPA should 'dare to think differently'

3.18.51pm GMT Wed 24th Sep 2008

Next Tuesday, the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority is due to discuss their response to the Government's consultation on direct elections to national park authorities, and have indicated they might be supportive of the idea. South Lakes MP Tim Farron has suggested that they should 'dare to think differently'.

Tim said: "The Yorkshire Dales should be congratulated for their position. Local people should have a say on an authority which controls so much affecting their day to day lives.

"I'd like to suggest that the Yorkshire Dales do indeed dare to think differently than their colleagues elsewhere, and indeed they could go further and offer themselves up as a pilot authority in England for direct elections.

"I shall also be meeting with the Lake District National Park Authority later this week, and will press them to take a similar position."
