Tim Farron MP - Working for Westmorland and Lonsdale

Government "lurching from one crisis to another" says Farron

8.25.40pm GMT Mon 6th Oct 2008

Reflecting on today's announcement by Chancellor Alistair Darling, Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron commented:

"The government is lurching from one crisis to another. With the uncertainty created by neighbouring European economies we are looking at a recipe for disaster.

"The government needs to abandon its ad-hoc crisis management and show some leadership.

"This won't happen by a gang of economic ministers lining up behind the Chancellor; but from a more systematic approach starting with housing.

"The government's 'sticking plaster' policy of propping up housing prices is a disgracefully inadequate response and will bring no relief to families in South Lakeland.

"They should use the £8billion the government has committed to social housing to buy surplus land and property at the substantial discounts being offered to provide much needed affordable housing in South Lakeland."
