Freak weather fails to frighten Farron

Local MP Tim Farron joined hundreds of drenched competitors on Saturday in the Puma Coniston Trail Race to finish an impressive 151st.

Despite the previous week's sunshine, it seemed that the elements were firmly against the entrants, with nearly a month's worth of raining falling in one day. Weather conditions became so bad that Coniston Mountain Rescue moved the original planned route to a shorter lower level course instead.

Nevertheless, Tim along with 500 other runners completed the course in torrential rain. The local MP presented prizes to the winners whilst Milnthorpe Steel Band kept competitors in high spirits.

Soaked but upbeat, Tim said: "The weather was determined to do its best to stop the race, but we were determined to run anyway.

"I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who made this race possible despite horrendous weather conditions, especially Mountain Rescue, and congratulations to all who finished!"
