    This morning, local MP Tim Farron has written an open letter to the Prime Minister calling for there to be a maximum limit on the number of miles people can drive for exercise to help to stop a surge in people travelling to the Lake District from outside the county.

    It comes after fears that the new guidance from the Government allowing people to "drive to other destinations" will see a huge influx of people driving to the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.

    Ahead of the 75th anniversary of VE Day tomorrow, South Lakes MP Tim Farron has thrown his weight behind the campaign for the Government to restore full state pensions to World War Two veterans who have moved abroad after retirement.

    According to the Campaign to End Frozen Pensions, more than half a million UK state pensioners have had their pensions frozen after moving overseas, including an estimated 100,000 who served in the Armed Forces.

    South Lakes MP has secured an assurance from DEFRA Secretary George Eustice that the Government are working on a financial support package for dairy farmers that have been severely affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

    The closure of restaurants and cafes has seen a collapse in demand for milk, alongside a big drop in prices paid by dairy processors.

    During a debate in Parliament last night on the coronavirus pandemic, South Lakes MP Tim Farron urged ministers to agree to a 12-month financial settlement to support the UK's hospitality and tourism industry.

    In his speech, Tim warned of many businesses being forced to go to the wall and thousands of jobs lost unless Government support continues after the lockdown.
