Tim collecting signatures for the cancer unit campaignWestmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron has today thanked residents for the tremendous level of local support they have shown to the campaign to bring radiotherapy services to Westmorland General Hospital.

Now 3128 local residents have signed the petition calling on NHS bosses to bring a radiotherapy unit to Westmorland General Hospital.

The campaign was launched after the huge success in bringing the chemotherapy unit to the hospital. If radiotherapy services were provided in Kendal, it would save patients from a 100 mile round trip toPreston.

Recently the campaign gained a major boost when the Westmorland Gazette newspaper joined the campaign for a radiotherapy unit. The petition can be found at: http://timfarron.co.uk/en/petition/help-bring-a-radiotherapy-service-to-Kendal

Tim said: "I'm overwhelmed by the level of local support that we've received. I want to pay tribute to local residents, the Westmorland Gazette and everyone involved in the campaign. We've had people queuing up to sign the petition which shows how much people care about the campaign. I will keep pushing until we get a full cancer treatment unit at the much loved Westmorland General. We are moving in the right direction but we need to keep the pressure on."
