MP determined to save Windermere air show and to bring it back it better than ever in future

December 2, 2011 12:06 PM

TF 9Local MP Tim Farron has today said he is 'determined to do all he can' to help save the much loved Windermere Air Show and allow it continue in the next few years after the 2012 event was pulled.

The organisers of the event have today announced that they have cancelled the 2012 event due to the lack of grant funding and sponsorship revenue. The Rotary Club of Windermere have announced that they will look to put the event on in the future.

Bluestone Events will no longer run the event, having helped organise it in 2010 and been responsible in 2011. The Windermere Air Festival was controversially run for the first time as a commercial entity in 2011 after being for many years a good will gesture to the people because of the many low flying jets in the Lakes.

Commenting, Tim said: "I am keen to do anything to help save the much loved event. The air show is a real boost to the economy and the local tourist sector and I am keen to support the Rotary Club and anyone else who wants to try and resurrect the event. The air show is a high point in the calendar for thousands of people in the South Lakes."
