MP backs foster carer call

October 10, 2012 10:52 AM

TF ruralSouth Lakes MP Tim Farron has backed a call from Cumbria County Council for local people to come forward as foster carers.

Cumbria County Council has said that while foster carers are required throughout the whole of Cumbria, Kendal and South Lakeland has been identified as an area that requires more foster carers.

People interested in finding out more about fostering have been invited to an information session at Kendal Community Fire Station on Tuesday 30 October at 6pm. During the session a short film made by some local foster carers and children who have been in foster care will be shown, looking at their experiences of fostering. Members of the fostering team will also be on hand to discuss and answer any questions.

For more details contact Cumbria County Council's fostering team on 0303 333 1216 or visit www.fosterforcumbria.org

Commenting this morning Tim said: "Being a foster carer could offer a child in a vulnerable situation a real chance for a better life. Many children need a supportive and loving home and I know many young people's lives that have been transformed by foster parents. I think foster carers are real unsung heroes in society and I am delighted to support Cumbria County Council's campaign for foster carers."
