MP thanks 'Keep the Flame' team for their hard work

October 11, 2012 1:06 PM

TF ruralSouth Lakes MP Tim Farron has today thanked the people behind the 'Keep the Flame' event after plans were revealed for a two day event in place of this years Torchlight Carnival.

Kendal's Torchlight Carnival was postponed this year after funding and volunteer shortages forced organisers to take the unprecedented step of cancelling the event for the first time in its 42 year history. The 'Keep the Flame' group was set up to try and organise a replacement for one year only.

'Keep the Flame', working with the Westmorland Shopping Centre in Kendal are holding a two day replacement event on:

Friday 19th October, Westmorland Shopping Centre 6-9pm

The event will have Olympians, music performances, majorettes, Steven Hall, vintage Cars, fancy dress competitions, face painting, Kendal Lions and games for children.

Tim is committed to working with the community and others to make 2013 the biggest and best Torchlight ever. Recently, Kendal Town Council has set aside £10,000 towards the 2013 Kendal Torchlight Carnival.

Tim said: "I want to pay tribute to Liz Axton, Megan Fearnley, Andy Kaye and the rest of the team for all their hard work on putting this event on. I know from organising our successful march to get chemotherapy services at Westmorland General, how hard it can be to pull events like this together. This really shows what hard working and caring people can do when they work together. It promises to be a great two days, but I know that after the event we will all come together and work to make Torchlight 2013 the biggest and best event ever."
