South Lakes MP Tim Farron has thanked local residents for their 'overwhelming' support of the campaign to bring Accident and Emergency services to Westmorland General Hospital. As of lunchtime today 1058 people have signed the petition.
University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust is on the verge of launching a two year long plan to restructure health services in South Cumbria and North Lancashire. Tim wrote to local GP's before Christmas asking them what they think of his campaign to bring A&E services back to the much loved local hospital. As a result of the recent NHS reforms, GP's now hold much of the power and funds to commission and move services.

Tim said: "The fact that over a thousand local people have joined the campaign in just a day is extremely impressive. I think it is a fantastic testimony to the strength of our case.Ever since acute services were moved to Lancaster and Barrow, local residents have contacted me with concerns and horror stories. Although the new management team have improved things, long waits and congestion at Lancaster hospital are still a fact of life. We have a real chance to make our voice heard so I hope as many people as possible join our campaign and sign the petition."
