South Lakes MP Tim Farron has hailed a Government grant of over £900,000 to improve facilities at Kendal College, delivered after a successful application for new funds announced in the Autumn Statement.

The money has been announced as part of £550m in capital funding available for investment in those Colleges in greatest need and those with the potential to support growth in the areas they serve. Kendal College has secured £953,286 of that public funding to improve its facilities, which comes as part of a £1,906,571 project combining the Government investment with a further £953,285 in private funding.

Commenting, Tim said: "This is absolutely brilliant news for Kendal College, and will lead to massive benefits for young people and employers across our area.

"It is vitally important that the college is able to regularly update the facilities on offer to students, in order to maintain the fantastic quality of college leavers in Cumbria. This money will enable them to continue adding to a pool of talent which will be the lifeblood of local businesses in the future.

"I am delighted Kendal College's importance to our community has been recognised by the Government, and this money will make a significant contribution in equipping our young people with the skills they need to benefit the local area in their future careers".
