MP wins bus campaign!

April 8, 2013 3:37 PM

Tim and the Lib Dems at WGHSouth Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that Stagecoach are going to resume the bus link between Arnside and Westmorland General Hospital.

When the Conservative-led County Council put the bus routes up for tender, they allowed the routes to be changed. Campaigners argued that this was too long a journey for sick people to undertake.

Following a long running campaign by Tim, Stagecoach have now agreed to re-schedule the 552 bus to include a stop at Westmorland General on a trial basis, stopping visitors to the hospital from having to get an extra bus from Kendal.

Tim said: "Working with local residents and Stagecoach we have been able to make sure that this vital bus link is reinstated. This has been a real community campaign to protect our vital bus routes and this is another major success.

"Our rural bus routes are vital links for many villages in South Lakeland and I will keep fighting to defend them."
