Local MP Tim Farron found out for himself just how tough it is to travel along Lake District roads as a cyclist. Tim cycled with local resident Paul Holdsworth to see for himself how dangerous local roads can be.
Certain roads in the Lake District have been accused of being dangerous for cyclists, containing multiple potholes as well as other tricky terrain. Tim cycled from Brockhole to Ambleside and back.
Tim was provided with a bike by Country Lanes Lake District Cycle Hire Centre. Tim now will be asking the County Council to improve the road for cyclists.
Tim had been told that this section of the road is incredibly bad. Tim has asked for local people to email him at tim@timfarron.co.uk about other areas that need to be improved for cyclists in South Lakeland.
Tim said: "I've had a number of complaints from my constituents about the poor state of Lake District roads for cycling, and so I decided it was time for me to step up and have a crack at it myself! Now that I have seen where the main problems lie I am much better placed to help. I am a very strong supporter of sustainable transport so I want to make sure I am involved in improving roads for cyclists in the Lake District!"
Guy Fitzgerald, Director of Country Lanes Cycle Centre, said: "There are some fantastic cycle rides throughout the Lake District. Here at Country Lanes Cycle Centre we provide cycle hire route maps based on quiet, traffic free roads, cycle paths and off road bridleways. The section of road linking Brockhole to Ambleside is an important route for commuter and leisure cyclists alike. Improvements need to be made to make the route safe and enjoyable for everyone."
