South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that the Ministry of Defence will try and make sure that night flights are curbed. Tim has vowed to keep pushing ministers for further concessions.
Tim has been pushing the government on this issue since 2005 and the government has finally agreed that some action needs to be taken. Tim was contacted by a constituent who was disturbed by a low flying United States Air Force plane after 11pm in June. This is the latest representation Tim has made in relation to low flying in the Lakes.
In the government's reply, Defence Minister Mark Francois MP said: "We will look to avoid a recurrence of low flying in the same area on three consecutive evening as I do appreciate this would have been annoying for some of your constituents."
Tim said: "These moves the government is making are welcome, but I know residents will still have concerns. I will keep pushing to try and get further concessions. I think it is vital that the air force are able to practice, but I hope we can find a balance that works for local residents too."
