South Lakes MP Tim Farron is taking a local petition to curb speeding through Elterwater village to the House of Commons.
Tim is handing in the petition from local residents and Lakes County Councillor Heidi Halliday to Parliament on the 11th November at approximately 7pm. Local residents have led a long campaign to cut speeding through the village and have asked repeatedly for Cumbria County Council to act. Campaigners hope that by handing over this petition it will add further pressure for action to be taken on this dangerous road.
Tim said: "Whenever I speak to residents in Elterwater they tell me that speeding cars through the village are both noisy and dangerous. I hope that by handing in the petition and drawing the attention of Parliament and government to our campaign we can add their pressure to the growing calls for action to take place."
Lakes County Councillor Heidi Halliday added: "Residents of Elterwater have been pressing for a reduced speed limit since 2008. I find it absurd that the national speed limit applies to Elterwater. The Community and myself, quite rightly, do not want to wait for an accident to happen before anything is done"
